Theatre are presenting three performances of Hedwig and the Angry Inch
in the KIVA, starting this Thursday, 20 October and running through
Saturday, 22 October. It is a great and unusual play with great
performances by local talents. Tickets are $10 and available at the

Hedwig/Hansel is played by the ever-popular Dan Gerics, director of
Flint City Theatre and adjunct faculty in the Theatre Department at
UM-Flint. Christine Tomlinson, a recent graduate of UM-Flint, who is
currently pursuing a master's degree in costume design at Wayne State
University, directs the play. Marie Glenn, who plays Yitzhak, is an
UM-Flint student. The vocals of Gerics and Glenn are backed up by
the dynamic band of Bob Gerics on Guitar, Alissa Hetzner on Keyboard,
Nick Calandro and Chris Morden on Bass (alternating nights and Andy
Suski on Drums.

A rock musical comedy with an edge and lots of heart was written by
John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is
the story of Hedwig who was born a boy named Hansel. When Hansel fell
in love with an American GI, he underwent a sex-change operation to
become Hedwig, marry the GI and flee East Berlin for America. Once
Hedwig reaches America, she is betrayed and dumped by her husband and
subsequent lover, Tommy Gnosis. Gnosis becomes a mainstream rock star
using the music he stole from Hedwig. In the meanwhile, Hedwig forms
her own band that plays at small venues, bistros, clubs and coffee
houses. Hedwig tells her life story through a series of concerts,
alternating between singing popular rock songs and charged dialogue
with the audience.
